The most common cause of squealing. When pads get thin, a metal wear indicator scrapes the rotor — that high-pitched squeal is your built-in warning. If you ignore it long enough, the indicator wears through and you get grinding.
Excessive heat (hard braking, descending mountains) warps the rotor surface. New pads can't seat flat on a warped rotor — so you get shudder, vibration through the pedal, and the pad wears unevenly fast.
The caliper piston sticks and keeps the pad pressed against the rotor even when you're not braking. This causes heat buildup, uneven pad wear, pulling to one side, and eventually a soft pedal from fluid loss.
Fluid absorbs moisture over time — when it gets low or air gets in, the pedal goes straight to the floor. Happens slowly over months. Matt bleeds the system and tops off the fluid as part of most brake jobs.
"Battery died in my driveway at 7am. Matt was there by 8:30, tested the alternator too, replaced the battery on the spot. Cheaper than I expected."
"Check engine light had been on for weeks. Matt ran the diagnostic for $79, explained every code in plain English, fixed the O2 sensor same day."
"Matt showed up right on time, diagnosed the starter in 10 minutes, had the truck running before lunch. Way easier than a shop."
Depends on the sound. A light squeal? You have days. Loud grinding? Hours. Soft pedal or pulling? Don't drive — call Matt now. The louder the noise, the faster the damage accumulates.
Pad replacement on one axle takes 45–60 minutes. Pad + rotor combo takes 90 minutes. Matt brings common pads and rotors; if yours needs ordering, he'll quote you before leaving.
Yes — common sizes for most vehicles. Matt carries quality ceramic pads and a selection of rotors. For uncommon vehicles or full rotor replacements, he'll quote the part and schedule a second visit if needed.
Yes. Rear drum or rear disc — both covered. Not every vehicle needs rear brake service, but Matt checks all four wheels and tells you what's actually needed.
Matt checks the whole system — calipers, lines, fluid, rotor condition — and tells you exactly what's wrong. If the sound turns out to be something else, you're only out the inspection time. No charge for the diagnosis.
